From The President
WOW!!! What a turnout for Forum. MACPP had 26 delegates at
Forum representing fifteen different entities in the Metro. Twenty-two
of those members were present to join us on stage Monday, August
24, to accept the 2009 Mid-size Chapter of the Year Award.
Rick Grimm of NIGP commented to the audience as we took the
stage that we looked more like the large chapter winner by our attendance.
Achieving this goal two years in a row is no small task.
There was heavy competition in our size group and we successfully defended our title
against two Florida chapters who were after our scalps. It was very exciting to hear our
name called out again. This kind of accomplishment does not just happen. It is the result
of a lot of hard work by a lot of people. We have shown the national organization
that we are an enthusiastic, progressive and motivated chapter. Our programs, our certifications,
our educational opportunities, and many other things all come together to
make us a chapter of choice, an award winning chapter if you will. The important thing
for MACPP now is to keep this momentum going. I can see nothing to stop us from
making it a repeat in 2010. We have a great Board, great members, and great programs
and special events. So, let’s keep it up.
The rest of the Forum was very exciting as well. MACPP’s own Brett Wood, CPPB, Senior Purchasing Administrator for Johnson County, Kansas was the 2009 NIGP recipient of the “Professional Buyer of the Year” Award. This was a huge honor, considering NIGP has 2,600 member agencies, over 16,000 members and 77 individual chapters in the US, Canada and several other countries. I had the pleasure of talking to John Neger, one of MACPP’s charter members on the phone last week. John was the recipient of this award for MACPP about twenty years ago, and he was very pleased to see it back on our turf this year.
Thanks to all of you from MACPP who served as volunteers at this year’s Forum. I heard many compliments on the Forum and the organization and much of the success was due to the St. Louis MAPP, MAPP, KAPPP and MACPP chapter volunteers who kept it running like a well oiled machine.
We still have three months left in 2009, and lots to do, so don’t lose the momentum. We have another general meeting, election of the 2010 Board, and of course, a very special annual holiday meeting in December. I hope to see you all at the meetings.
Thanks,
John M. Mahin CPPO,
CPPB
